Light Educational Ministries is constantly writing and upgrading our range of curriculum materials, drawing on many years of experience in Christian education. Much of the material designed for the junior grades is for use with the LEM Phonics method of writing and reading. Books are predominantly A4 size and are saddle stitched or wire bound.

LEM Phonics 2020

Educators all across the planet are recognising that phonics is the only method of teaching English that is consistent with the brain’s pattern of learning. LEM Phonics is Australia’s own ‘home grown’ synthetic phonics program, created in Australia, especially for the Australian accent, to suit Australian classrooms. Through phonograms, sounds, and the rules that govern the relationships between them, LEM Phonics makes sense of the English language. LEM Phonics 2020 is a comprehensive program covering the first 5 years of literacy instruction, utilising the six state-based handwriting styles used in all Australian schools. LEM Phonics Legacy

LEM Phonics Legacy version is the original 1997 intensive phonics method that enjoyed success in both Australian and overseas EAL markets and pioneered phonics as a superior method of literacy training in Australia. We continue to provide most resources for this version to support those still completing the program, but we encourage all new users to begin with the 2020 version of LEM Phonics. LEM Phonics 2020 contains significant upgrades and simplification of the original material, whilst retaining the core principles.

Art

Let’s Teach Art developed by Terry Lewitzka and Peter Frogley is a primary Art curriculum for Grades 1–3.

Astronomy

The Heavens Declare is James Nickel’s Astronomy curriculum, written specifically for the southern hemisphere.

Government/Civics

Government in Australia is a senior course exploring the Christian heritage of our nation, along with a study of the constitution.

History/Geography

History of Australia is a curriculum for Grades 3–5, and The Earth is a Grade 6–8 physical geography course.

Mathematics

Milestone Maths settles the long standing debate on how to effectively teach mathematics by proving that rote memorisation and broad conceptual understanding are neither mutually exclusive nor are they the only tools available to the maths teacher. Children master foundational skills, learn the basic facts and gradually develop a deep conceptual understanding by engaging with multisensory lessons that are easy to teach and make learning even the most challenging concepts simple and fun. Each milestone focusses on mastering a single key concept or skill while simultaneously reviewing previously learned material to make learning stick and deepen understanding. A key feature of the program is it's focus on developing independence very quickly so that children can begin working and exploring at their own pace as soon as possible.

Music

The Elements of Music is a thoroughly Biblical approach to musical appreciation written by Melbourne music teacher Wendy Hill.

Science/Bible

God’s Plan is the title of this Science/Bible curriculum for kindergarten and junior primary.
