The Elements of Music
The Elements of Music comprises three volumes exploring the fourteen elements of music. It is designed for students aged eight and above in homeschools, classrooms, and instrumental lessons. One lesson is completed each week.
The Elements of Music acknowledges God as the Creator of music, demonstrates how the elements teach about God’s character, and develops awareness of how music evidences God’s design and creativity. The program provides an economical music curriculum without the expense of private instrumental lessons.
‘After thinking through and praying over where to take the whole music thing and not really liking what was available, we were able to look at a copy of The Elements of Music and were sold. It is exactly what we want and no-one has been able to offer us anything better.’
— Britta, Charter’s Towers, Queensland
What it Teaches
Each of the fourteen elements contains a simple definition, actions, music, relevant scripture passage, and a God-message explaining what it reflects about God’s character. It also covers music, church and general history from Creation to the twentieth century and equips the student with basic keyboard, aural and composition skills.
Requirements
No prior music knowledge is required. A CD player, keyboard with at least four octaves, Bible, and writing materials are required materials. It can be studied with or without a trained music teacher.
Course Content
Each volume of The Elements of Music contains a Teacher’s Resource Kit, including a Teacher’s Manual, CDs, flashcards, manuscript paper, music games and a Student Workbook. Volumes 2 and 3 also include a Test Booklet and a Keyboard Arrangements Book.
Volume 1 commences music reading and basic keyboard skills, and Volumes 2 and 3 explore history from Ancient Times, Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods. These explorations focus on God’s role in the world rather than man’s achievements.
Theory, aural training, composition and keyboard skills are developed throughout all volumes.
‘For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope.’
